Leo Windeln

Born in 1962 in Heinsberg in the Rhineland. My artistic journey began at the age of 16 when I discovered painting.

Key data on my career

My artistic journey began at the age of 16, when I discovered painting for myself. I had my first exhibition in 1980 and received my first public recognition.

The 1980s were a formative period for me. In addition to self-taught studies, I deepened my knowledge of the art of still life and landscape painting at the Roermond Free Academy.

I work exclusively with high-quality oil colours on linen stretcher frames and combine wet-on-wet technique with layer painting. Inspired by the Impressionists, I do not use black colour. My motifs come from nature in my surroundings and from travelling abroad.

Attention to detail, whether it's a stinging nettle or a discolouring leaf, is important to me. I endeavour to capture the moods of light and achieve the perfection of my artistic role models.

I invite you to discover my works and experience the stories behind them.
